Bandon Angling News
- BAA Late June Update.
The season is in full swing, late evenings and most important plenty of fish being caught, including this beauty caught by Rob Smyth on a cascade fly and weighed in at 10lb.
Other Catches include a 13lb by Shane O' Mahony, a 14lb by Leon Costello, an 8lb by Johnny Holland amongst plenty of others. On another note please continue to use and visit the "Fisherman's Blog" and get your voice heard. Recently we went to the Blackwater Lodge on a fishing trip with Glenda Powell. A great day was to be had by all with two fish caught, one released and two hooked and lost. The lucky fishermen were Anthony Buckley with a 13lb fish caught on fly and Rob Smyth who caught a 3lb grilse on the fly and released it. One fish lost by Tim McCarthy and another by Leon Costello. The lads are planning to return before the season ends. Great craic was to be had. Also, as reported on the IFI Website: 45 salmon caught on the Bandon for the week and some were returned. Best fish was 17 lb. approx landed by a Cork City Angler who also had a fish of 14 lb. which was released. The rest averaged 8 lbs. to 9 lbs. each. Fishing conditions were conductive to any kind of lure. Not many sea trout being caught at the moment. | - BAA Facebook

Aongus OLaoire, Aongus O'Donnell and Denis O'Sullivan. Aongus OLaoire was a lovely man and an ardent fisherman. He fished the Bandon for at least 40 years, always with his great friend Brendan Kelleher. Usually one met them sitting down on the bank, having a cuppa, or just relaxing. They loved the chat and were always in the best of humour. Then we were told of the sudden death of Aongus O'Donnell, the young eminent cardiologist from the CUH. Aongus did excellent heart operations on many of our members, including at least three of our Committee. He loved his fishing and he enjoyed the Bandon River. We lost Denis O'Sullivan, again suddenly a member of our Committee. Denis was special. He adored his salmon fishing and usually caught the "biggest" fish every year. If there was a job to do, Denis was always there. God rest them all. We will always remember them. |
